About the talk
Test coverage. Bug counts. Cycle time. These numbers are everywhere, but rarely spark useful conversations or lead to better decisions. In this talk, Kat Obring introduces the QED framework, a simple method for designing meaningful metrics that align with context, support strategic decisions, and improve quality outcomes over time.
You’ll learn how to:
– Ask the right questions before reaching for a number
– Find evidence in everyday tools (CI logs, bug trackers, git stats)
– Run lightweight, testable experiments that tie measurement to impact
Whether you’re a tester, developer, or engineering leader, this talk will help you shift metrics from vanity to value — and start using data to improve, not just to report.
Bring your metrics baggage. Leave with a better way forward.
Biography
With over 20 years in the software industry, Kat now focuses on what matters most: teaching teams and individuals how to measurably improve the quality of their work. Her practical frameworks combine insights from her diverse experience as a DevOps QA engineer, Head of Delivery, and, surprisingly, her early career as a chef. She’s learned that evidence always beats guesswork, and a well-designed experiment will reveal more truth than months of planning ever could.
